L'orange Pot with Lid

France

$195

Antique Rare Ceramic
That color! This early 20th-century French preserve jar, found in Avignon, has a rare glossy orange glaze and fitted ceramic lid. These jars were traditionally used to store seasonal fruits, confits, and potted meats, sealed and kept cool in the cellar or larder, an essential in Provençal kitchens before refrigeration. The shape, with its rounded body and double handles, made it easy to carry and stack among other pantry staples. Now, it makes a charming cookie jar (Sylvie keeps hers filled with sablés).
