Rare Spanish Candlestick

Spain, 19th Century

$175

Antique Jaw Dropper Table Scape Essential

Originally found in a masía in Catalonia, these late 19th-century Spanish candlesticks were hand-forged from a single piece of iron, the stems rising in a slow twist from a scalloped iron base. Each one was made by a village blacksmith and no two are exact, the kind of small object that lit the long stone rooms of a Catalan farmhouse before electricity reached the countryside. The iron has rusted and softened over the decades into a warm, mottled patina. Available in two styles, swirl and straight bases. Sylvie sets a few down the middle of a dinner table with cream tapers, lit before anyone sits down.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
