Antique One-Of-A-Kind Kitchen Must Have

In an early 19th-century Spanish farmhouse kitchen, a cabinet like this one held the cheese, the bread, and the cured meats, the wire mesh on the upper doors letting air through so the food could breathe without flies getting in. Found in Montpellier but Spanish by birth, this early 19th-century painted cabinet is built with two wire-mesh doors at the top, two solid panel doors below, and a single wooden knob between them all. Cabinets with mesh fronts were the fresqueras of Spanish country kitchens, the pantry of a house before electricity, the wire chosen because air mattered more than a view of what was inside. Sylvie sets it in a kitchen with a stack of folded linens on the bottom shelf and a row of glass bottles standing behind the wire above.
