French Oak Bench

France, 20th Century

$695

Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Exactly As Pictured

Ooh la la! Found in Avignon, this 20th-century French bench is solid oak, a long plank top set on two crossed trestle legs joined by a stretcher running its length. Benches like this ran down the side of a farmhouse table, back when a household didn't own a chair for every person and everyone just squeezed up to make room for one more. The crossed frame and the long stretcher were built to take the weight of a whole family leaning in for a meal. Sylvie runs it along a table, or stands it in a hallway where people drop their bags and pull on their shoes.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. This piece has been sanded to a raw oak finish and is sturdy overall, with only a very subtle side-to-side rock. As each piece is antique, slight variations in size and appearance should be expected.
