In the drawing rooms of Second Empire France, the fashion turned to chairs a person could sink into, deep and sprung on the coil springs that had only just come into use. Found in Béziers, the armchair and its matching ottoman come out of that moment, low and round-backed in moss-green velvet and skirted to the floor in bullion fringe. They roll on small brass casters, the kind that let a whole room be pulled apart for the evening and put back by morning. Sylvie pulls the ottoman up to the chair by the window and loses the slow part of the afternoon there, feet up with her latest read open. The castors have been added in more recent times.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
