Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare Hard To Find

From Normandy and found in Béziers, this early-20th-century oak table spent its working life as the counter of a draper's shop. Bolts of cloth were unrolled across the long flat top and measured out by the yard, while the shelf and the base below kept the stock stacked and close to hand, which is why it was built long, low, and wide enough to spread a length of fabric full. Counters like this saw a whole town's curtains, sheets, and Sunday clothes pass across them, cut to length one customer at a time. Sylvie uses it as a living room console or a kitchen island, with books and ceramics on the shelf below.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. This piece has been sanded to a raw wood finish and shows dark discoloration around the metal elements within the wood. The hardware has rusted with age, and the top has two splits at one end, along with scratches and variation in surface patina adding to its charm.
