Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare

From Catalonia and found in Béziers, this late-19th-century Spanish bench earns its name from the row of scallops the carpenter cut along the back. Long benches like this ran along the wall of a farmhouse kitchen or just inside the door, the seat where people waited, pulled off their boots, and sat to talk while someone cooked. The scalloped back was pure decoration, the maker spending an extra hour to make a plain bench worth looking at when all it really had to do was hold weight. Sylvie sets it in an entry for pulling on shoes, or along a wall with cushions and a low stack of books beneath.

The hardware shows light rust marking and patina variation. The bench surface shows wear, scrapes, signatures, and a small chip at one end.
