Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare

Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and Belgian by origin, this 19th-century chair is the plank-and-board kind a country carpenter made by hand, a solid seat with a tall shaped backboard rising straight out of it. The cut-out in the back was the handle, put there so you could lift the chair with one hand and carry it to wherever it was needed, or hook it on the wall to clear the floor for sweeping. Its four legs splay out from the seat for balance, the same trick that kept a farmhouse stool steady on an uneven floor. Sylvie stands it in an entryway or by a bed, more for the shape of it than for sitting.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. Due to the construction of this antique, the back of the chair is in an upright position and holds a slight wiggle.
