Vintage Glass Pedestal Dish with Cloche

Found outside Lyon from a dealer we've worked with for years, this vintage French glass pedestal dish came from his father's collection, built up over decades of looking. The stand is plain footed glass on a slim stem, topped with a clear dome and a little glass ball to lift it by. Pedestal dishes like this were the standard of a French dessert table, raised up so the cake or the pastries could be seen from across the room, the dome keeping them fresh until someone gave in. Sylvie keeps it on the counter with a few croissants under the glass for whoever comes down first.
