Spanish Scallop Side Table

A small Spanish table found its way to Montpellier and stayed, and it's not hard to see why. Built in the late 19th century with a single drawer and a turned wooden knob, it has scalloped aprons running below the drawer and along the stretcher at the floor. The double scallop is the Spanish country signature, a small flourish on a piece that was otherwise built to work; tables like this lived in the corner of a farmhouse room, used as a writing desk on Sunday and a card table on every other night. Sylvie sets it beside a bed with a small lamp, a book, and a glass of water.
