Vintage Sylvie Favorite Wood

Found in Avignon and dating to the 1930s, this French dining table was originally built for communal meals in a monastery, where oak furniture was made to endure generations of use. The trestle base and broad stretcher show the craftsmanship of the period, and the entire table has been sanded down to reveal the pale tone and open grain beneath its original finish. Sylvie likes it paired with a mix of vintage chairs and plenty of good bread, carrying forward the spirit of shared simplicity it was born from.

Notes from Sylvie:

This classic trestle table still comes apart into pieces. The feet come off the legs, the legs un-bolt from the table and the stretcher comes out. The piece has been sanded down, with some original finish still showing through. As with many antiques, this piece may show gentle repairs, cracks, scratches, holes, years worth of patina, and stains - just the way we like it.
