Marble Pedestal

France, 20th Century

$895

In the entrance hall or parlor of a turn-of-the-century home, a marble pedestal like this held a fern or a bust where every visitor would see it. This one dates to the 20th century, found in Lille, carved as a slender, grooved column rising from a round stepped base. The grooves down its shaft and the carved leaves at its top copy the classical columns of Greek and Roman temples. Sylvie stands it in a corner with a vase full of freshly picked flowers.
