19th c. Oak Cupboard

Et Voilà! We opened the warehouse door in Avignon and there she was, glowing beneath a thick layer of dust. This tall 19th-century oak cupboard once stood in the kitchen of a Provençal bastide, likely used to store dry goods, ceramic servingware, and preserved fruits through the winter. The carved floral panel above the door suggests it was made as a wedding piece or family heirloom, and its original hardware and latch are still in place. The outer frame shows traces of old flaking paint, a subtle reminder of its many decades of use and love. Sylvie keeps hers stocked with tureens, linens, and a steady rotation of market finds.
